Rudy Gobert understands the process for young big men trying to acclimate and find their way in the NBA. He entered the league as a 21-year-old more than a decade ago.Gobert noted he and Chet Holmgren — a new-age unicorn of sorts who can do a bit of everything on the floor — are different players, but he also added it was an adjustment for him to get into the league and battle guys who are much stronger and more physical than he was at the time.“It was a process I told myself. I really had to spend some time in the weight room, and if I wanted to be able to stay on the court. Saratoga Springs homeless shelter recommendation heads to city council

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. (NEWS10) -- The Saratoga Springs City Council is one step closer to addressing the needs of its homeless population. The Saratoga Homeless Task Force voted to recommend a new low barrier homeless shelter.In an unanimous vote, they recommended a location on Lake Avenue near the Northway overpass. The location was controversial for some task force members as the area doesn't have sidewalks, crosswalks or bus stops nearby. A task force member said some of the difficulty in picking a location was due to homeless shelters not able to be placed within 1,000 feet of a school.Mayor-elect John Safford and the city council will hear from the task force in a council meeting in 2024 to determine the next steps for the shelter.

Mississippi River could see near-record low levels due to ongoing drought

ST. LOUIS – With the lack of recent, beneficial rainfall, drought conditions continue across east Missouri and south-central Illinois. It’s had a large effect on the Mississippi River, which could be headed for a near-record low water level.The current standing for the Mississippi River lies about a foot and a-half below normal value. That level is forecast to reach -5.2 feet by mid-December, which would be the sixth-lowest river level in recorded history.With rain in the forecast by the end of the workweek, the bulk of the incoming rain this weekend will primarily be centered to the south of St. Louis, which will not effectively help in improving water levels for the Mississippi.Mark Fuchs, a senior service hydrologist at the National Weather Service, says in order for improved conditions, rainfall needs to start in the northern basin of the Mississippi River to flow south and relieve southern branches in need of more water.The United States Coast Guard is working with the United S...

L.A. hospital seeks help identifying 2 ICU patients

A local hospital is asking for help to identify two patients who were found unconscious in Santa Monica.The patients are described as a young man in his 20s and an elderly woman in her 70-80s, according to Providence Saint John’s Health Center.The patients have been admitted into the hospital’s ICU and staff are hoping to locate their family members.The first patient, a woman believed to be 70 to 80 years old, was found in an alleyway on Wednesday in Santa Monica. Newly released data from the U.S. Census Bureau show that California was one of the states with the nation's lowest immigration rate in 2022. The organization defines immigration rates as “the number of people moving into a state as a share of that state’s total number of movers.”In other words, fewer people from other states moved to the Golden State.California’s immigration rate was 11.1%, meaning that only 11.1% of movers were new California residents. The District of Columbia had the highest immigration rates, with 44.3% of movers new to the area, the data showed. Millennials are moving to these cities the most, study says On average, about 19.9% of movers moved from state to state, the data showed.
